Police Officer Germany x Child Reader - My Mommy Said...
With the hot sun beating down onto his neck, Ludwig wiped off the perspiration that had accumulated there. Sighing in frustration, he began filling out the vandalism reports for the elementary school. ‘How in the world did vandalism occur in the elementary school’, you may wonder. Well, let’s just say there are a few suspects from the local Gymnasium [1] a few blocks down the road.
As Ludwig continued to fill out the report, he felt a pair of eyes watching him intently. Turning around, he at first saw nothing…until he looked down. Once he did, he found a little girl, no older than five, scrutinizing him with her gaze. The child, appearing to be looking him up and down, made Ludwig start to feel a bit uncomfortable. What was this kid doing…let alone thinking? What he didn’t know was that this little girl was surveying his uniform. He noticed that her eyes seemed to linger on his badge.
“Are you a cop?” she asked with a blank face, reminding Ludwig a bit of himself.
“Ja,” he replied and then looked away so that he could continue filling out the report. While he did so, he noticed that the young girl still stood in her place, appearing to wait patiently for him until he was done. Scribbling a couple of more things down, Ludwig finished with the report and was about to bring it back to his car. That is until the child’s voice stopped him from walking away any further.
“My mommy said that if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?” the little girl asked, garnering his attention and making him turn his body partially towards her. This time when Ludwig looked at her, a small smile spread across his lips. It amused him that she had to tilt her head back fully just to look at his face.
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Well then,” the girl stated as she extended her right foot towards Ludwig, “would you please tie my shoe?” That small smile of his turned into a big grin as he knelt down in front of her foot and grabbed a hold of the two shoe laces.
“Certainly Mädchen.” As he tied her shoe, the little girl still watched him with great interest. Intrigued by the fact that everyone was saying how police officers are scary people…but here was one that was willing to help her. Just like her mommy said.
“All done,” the policeman stated, bringing her out of her thoughts. Wiggling her foot around, she checked to make sure that it was securely tied. Finding that is was, she gave Ludwig a big smile in satisfaction.
“Danke für das Binden meinem Schuh [2]!” she yelled happily as she ran towards the elementary school’s entrance just in time for the bell to ring.
“Bitte,” he whispered to himself. Still smiling, Ludwig readjusted his hat and continued his trek towards his car.
It was days like today that made Ludwig’s job feel even more worthwhile.
